Blog| 28 February 2011 | Earthquake Relief | Reading The Hobbit again

All down Cuba Mall, Wellington's walkway of cafés and fun, are these signs placed by the Salvation Army.

What recovery is possible? The discussion has started between the re-builders and the visionaries.  Should the old buildings be copied and replaced or rather re-imagined, so Christchurch becomes again a city to visit and wonder at, remembering the renaissance of Napier the art-deco NZ town that was built in 1931 after its own debilitating earthquake.

Hurrahs and Huzzars for Colin Firth!  He accepts his due with such grace and good humour.

I've been reading The Hobbit yet again; the book and the film-script, at least part one of it.  In both, the characters leap off the page.
