Words from Ian McKellen

Washington DC is one of my favorite cities. I was first there onstage at the National Theatre for the first performances of Amadeus in 1980, with President Carter in the audience. Since then I've played Richard 111 at the Kennedy Centre and my solo show Acting Shakespeare". In 1993 I addressed the gay rights March in the Mall and in January this year attended the Inauguration.

On 29 October, I'm back for an evening of Shakespeare, chat and some gay stuff, raising funds for The Shakespeare Theatre Company in DC. Hope you can make it." — Ian McKellen, October 2009
